Ugás must expose Stanionis

The outlook of the Cuban as Welterweight super champion:

The Cuban Yordenis Ugas already has a task as Welterweight super champion endorsed by the World Boxing Association, an organization that has asked him to exhibit in no more than 120 days against the Lithuanian Eimantas Stanionis.

The WBA revealed that unless a rematch against Manny Pacquiao or a unification fight against Errol Spence is signed, Ugas will have to face Stanionis, and then face the winner of the fight between Jamal James, regular champion, and Radzhab Butaev.

This Thursday, September 16, the representatives of the four fighters were informed of the WBA’s idea to hold a tournament to leave only one champion by the end of March 2022 as part of President Gilberto Mendoza’s project to reduce the number of championships.

Ugas comes from defeating international boxing legend Manny Pacquiao on points to validate the WBA 147-pound belt, and it is assumed that the Filipino senator has the possibility of asking for a rematch, which could happen next December or January.

Stanionis, with a 13-0 record and 9 knockouts, has defeated the likes of Thomas Dulorme, and while he does not have the professional experience of Ugas, many consider him a serious threat among Welterweight contenders.

On the other side, James is the regular champion of the body. The American has only one loss and it was against Cuban Ugas, so he should put aside Russian Butaev (13-0, 10 KO’s) to seek a rematch against the islander or whoever holds the WBA super champion title.

In the next few days, the WBA expects to have communication with the protagonists of the ordered fights to know their interest in them and then to be able to give rise to what is imposed this September 16 to the champions and their mandatory challengers.
