Rams deny extending an offer to Beckham Jr.
After wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. posted via social media Wednesday that the contract offer extended to him by the Los Angeles Rams did not reflect his value, team head coach Sean McVay indicated he does not think that was the final offer from the club.
“L.A. knows where I wanted to be,” Beckham wrote via his Twitter account. “… but they didn’t offer me …. NOTHING! So I don’t know what people want me to do, I definitely know my value, and that offer didn’t reflect that. So it’s hard to say I can come back, even though I thought I had finally found a home!”.
Beckham signed with the Rams last November after he was released by the Cleveland Browns. During the postseason, Beckham racked up 21 catches for 288 yards and two touchdowns before suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during Super Bowl LVI.
“I love Odell,” McVay stated. “We have constant dialogue. He also knows that I certainly don’t think that was the last [offer] that would come from us. I’m not familiar with what it is. He knows how we feel about him. We have a little bit of time.
“But, I love Odell. Nothing but good things coming from me.”
The Rams still have a nameplate in the locker room of their training facility for Beckham. The Rams have not been quiet about their desire for Beckham’s return. In September, during a press conference, corner Jalen Ramsey mentioned the wide receiver during one of his answers, then took a pause and finished by saying, “Odell, come back.”
Currently, the Rams are the league’s No. 29 scoring offense, with just 80 points scored after five games. They are also the No. 26 total offense with 1,499 yards of offense.
