Myers to start training with PR for WBC
The Puerto Rican Baseball Federation (PRBBF) announced on Sunday that its star team will begin training on Tuesday in Florida under the direction of Yadier Molina, in preparation for the World Baseball Classic in which it will debut on March 11 against Nicaragua.
The members of the Puerto Rican team will be this Monday in the city of Fort Myers in Florida, where in the evening the coaching staff will meet with the president of the federation, José Quiles, executive director Efraín Williams and general manager Joey Solá.
The first training session will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. (17.00 GMT) at JetBlue Park, the Boston Red Sox training complex.
“We are looking forward to playing our first game as a team in Fort Myers and continuing our preparation for competition. It has been months of multiple negotiations, conversations and finally the time has come for all of us to be together,” Solá said in a statement.
“Seeing each other and fraternizing is important to strengthen the union as a group, with the same objective,” the general manager added.
Although the tournament begins on March 8 with the teams that will play the key on the Asian continent, Puerto Rico, which is part of Group D based in Miami, will play on March 11 against Nicaragua, in a zone in which the Dominican Republic, Venezuela and Israel are also paired.
