Mike Tyson guarantees Evander Holyfield fight will take place

The former world heavyweight champion has confirmed that his May 29 trilogy showdown is imminent.

Cool former heavyweight champion ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson has announced that his third fight against Evander ‘The Real Deal’ Holyfield is imminent for May 29, despite claims this week by the Olympic medal winner’s representatives that the American turned down a $25 million offer for the showdown.

“I just want to let people know that the feud between Holyfield and I will happen. Holyfield is a humble guy, I know, he is a God’s person, but I am God’s man. And we’ll have a lot of triumph on May 29,” Tyson stated in an Instagram chat with the Haute Living account that lasted about 24 minutes and has served to launch the magazine’s cover.

“I see it’s going to happen, the bout is going to happen, the only thing we have to go over are essential little things in the contract itself and it’s going to be me and Evander,” added the youngest heavyweight champion in professional boxing history in the talk, getting out in front of rumors that it wasn’t going to happen in the end.

But he did leave a brief reminder for boxing promoters. “I’ve changed a lot, we don’t need promoters, promoters are overrated entertainers, they tell the boxer how great he is. I like promoters, but what could you need from someone in his position in this matter?” he said.

On Monday, Evander’s agents claimed that Tyson turned down a $25 million offer and that Mike’s demands were already impossible to meet, despite the willingness of both sides for months to make this matchup a reality, as it appears it will happen.

Tyson, 54, lost twice in the 1990s era to Holyfield, 58. In 2020, Tyson’s return to the ring, with an eight-round fight against Roy Jones Jr, became the biggest pay-per-view in professional boxing, pandemic and all, so it wouldn’t exactly be far-fetched that, should the third with Evander materialize, it would end up being the biggest seller of this 2021.
