Marlins flake in the Top 3
It is the first time in the history of the rankings that three pitchers from the same team occupy the top three spots at any time during the season.
“Al Rojas Vivo,” which is published on Tuesday of each week, takes into account statistics for the entire year through Monday’s games. Players are not considered by their salaries, level or fame, but by their performance throughout the current season.

1: Pablo Lopez
Statistics 2022
The Venezuelan right-hander was the National League Pitcher of the Month for April. The Marlins pitcher had a 3-0 record with 23 strikeouts and an ERA of 0.39 in four starts. For the full season, Lopez (3-1, 1.61) is fifth in effectiveness and 10th in strikeouts (30) in 28.0 innings and five starts. In his last appearance he worked 4.2 innings, the first in which he did not cross the fifth act.
2: Sandy Alcantara

The Marlins righty is coming off his worst start of the season (five cleanup runs in 5.1 IL against Arizona), but his overall performance catapults him to the second spot in the rankings for the first time in 2022. Alcantara (2-1, 2.90) is third in innings pitched (31.0) and has 26 strikeouts and 14 walks in his first five starts.
3: Jesus Luzardo

The Peruvian-Venezuelan has pitched spectacularly in his last two starts to jump from eighth to third in the Latin pitcher rankings. Luzardo (2-1, 3.10) has 28 strikeouts and nine walks in 20.0 innings over four starts. The opposition is batting .178 with seven cleanup runs against the 24-year-old southpaw. In his 2022 debut, Luzardo struck out 12 in five episodes.
4: Luis Severino
2022 Stats
The Dominican’s performance has been key in the New York Yankees’ great start to the season. Severino, who was limited to 18.0 innings in the previous three years by a pair of serious injuries, has looked more than adequate in his first five starts of the year. Severino (2-0, 3.75) with 23 strikeouts and seven walks in 24.0 innings.
5: Edwin Diaz

The Puerto Rican is looking like the reliable closer a team needs to compete in the majors. “Sugar” Diaz has a 1-0 record, 1.80 ERA and four saves in five chances and 10 trips to the mound. The Puerto Rican has struck out 17 batters and given up five walks in 10.0 innings. The closer has a WHIP of 0.90 and the opposition is batting .121.
