Italy set a new record for consecutive euro wins

The Azzurri, who will face Spain in the Semifinals, reached 15 consecutive victories between qualifying and Euro 2020.
The Italy National Team, which will face Spain on Tuesday in the first Semifinal of Euro 2020, established with its victory in Munich over Belgium a new record of consecutive victories in the continental competition, including the qualifying phase.

Roberto Mancini’s side has now won 15 in a row, surpassing the record set by Joachim Low with Germany, who won all 10 of their Euro 2012 qualifiers, followed by the three group matches and the quarter-final. His streak was cut short by Italy.

Belgium also arrived at the Allianz Arena with an open streak of 14 wins, but their defeat against the Azzurri stopped them in their tracks and left the Azzurri with the record.

Italy, who lost on penalties to Germany in the Quarter-Finals of last Euro 2016 in France, began their streak in the opening qualifier against Finland in Udine with a 2-1 win.

They finished the preliminary round with ten wins (the other teams in their group were Greece, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Armenia and Liechtenstein), with 37 goals scored and four conceded, and in the Final Phase they have beaten Turkey, Switzerland, Wales, Austria and Belgium.

In total, Italy, who missed out on the World Cup in Russia, have now gone 33 games without defeat, surpassing the national record of 30 held by Vittorio Pozzo’s team between 1935 and 1939.

The Italian team has equaled two other European Championship finals records, the most consecutive victories and the most wins in a single tournament, both with five.

They are tied with France (12/06/84 – 27/06/84), the Netherlands (15/06/88 – 12/06/92) and the Czech Republic (21/06/00 – 27/06/04) for the most consecutive victories, and with France (1984, 2000 and 2016) and Spain (2008) for the most wins in a single tournament.
