Herring and Frampton clear the scales in Dubai

Frampton, 34, will attempt to become the first Irishman to be champion in three different categories this Saturday night in Dubai, late in America, when he challenges U.S. Marine and World Boxing Organization super featherweight champion Jamel ‘Semper Fi’ Herring.

This Friday at the weigh-in hearing, champion Herring and slight betting favorite weighed in at 129.4 pounds, while challenger Frampton registered a mark of 129.8 pounds. Herring is -110 in the betting and Frampton is at +105. The draw pays as high as +1600. That means Jamel pays if he wins $100 for every $105 wagered, while Carl gives $105 for every $100 wagered.

In Herring’s career, this is the first big name to come his way. He defeated Masayuki Ito to take the crown and successfully defended against Lamont Roach and Jonathan Oquendo. Frampton will come in with two straight wins after losing in 2018 to Josh Warrington in what was his most recent championship fight.

Frampton will have a historic matchup, but Herring is looking to stop him. Carl will come in with a record of 28-2 and 16 knockouts, highlighted by wins over Kiko Martinez, Nonito Donaire and Leo Santa Cruz. Jamel would do so with a professional record of 22-2 and 10 KO’s. It is expected to be a high caliber and adrenaline-filled duel.

On the card, Filipino multi-champion Donnie Nietes returns to action after more than two years to face Colombian Pablo Carrillo in a bout for the World Boxing Organization international belt. Nietes (42-1-5, 23 KO’s) is favored against Carrillo (25-7-1, 16 KO’s).

The Latin American telecast starts at 12:00 noon in Mexico City, at 1:00 p.m. in Bogota, at 3:00 p.m. in Buenos Aires and also in Santiago de Chile.
