Hamlin remains in critical condition

Deep-lying Damar Hamlin regained a heartbeat after suffering cardiac arrest Monday night against the Bengals and remains in critical condition at a Cincinnati hospital.
The Buffalo Bills confirmed that Damar Hamlin remains in critical condition in the intensive care unit at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center via a statement issued Tuesday afternoon by the organization.

The NFL also confirmed that it is in regular contact with the medical team caring for Hamlin, as well as the Bills and Bengals organizations and the players’ union in a statement of its own.

According to the league’s statement, after consulting with the NFLPA, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell informed the Bills and Bengals that the game will not resume this week. The league also disclosed that no determination has been made regarding the possible resumption of the game at a later date, and that no changes had been made to the previously announced Week 18 schedule.

Bills safety Damar Hamlin regained a pulse on the field after suffering cardiac arrest during the team’s Monday night game against the Cincinnati Bengals and is currently in critical condition at a Cincinnati hospital, the Bills said in a statement Tuesday morning.

The chilling scene midway through the first quarter of Monday night’s showdown between the two NFL powerhouses prompted the league to postpone the game about 90 minutes after kickoff.

According to the Bills, he is sedated and in critical condition. The University of Cincinnati Medical Center was not scheduled to issue a statement early Tuesday morning.

Most of the Bills’ team remained at Paycor Stadium late Monday night. The team, including all players outside of Hamlin, departed shortly after midnight and returned to Buffalo.

“Our thoughts are with Damar and the Buffalo Bills. We will provide more information as it becomes available,” the league said in a statement shortly after 10 p.m. ET. “The NFL has been in constant communication with the NFL Players Association, which agreed to the postponement of the game.””

In a conference call shortly after midnight, the NFL did not provide an update on the possible rescheduling of the game as the league enters the final week of its regular season.

The injury occurred after Hamlin tackled Higgins following a reception over the middle from the Bengals’ star receiver near midfield. Higgins drove with his right shoulder and hit Hamlin in the chest. Hamlin quickly got up, stood for about three seconds and then abruptly collapsed.
