Great games in Wild Card Games

In a thrilling season finale, the Red Sox came from behind thanks to a powerful offense by Rafael Devers, while the Yankees left the Rays in the field with Aaron Judge’s run-scoring homer.
A two-run homer by Rafael “Carita” Devers helped the Boston Red Sox defeat the Washington Nationals 7-5 in the final game of the regular season.

The Red Sox needed a providential performance from the Dominican who finished the game 5-4 with two homers and four runs batted in.

The victory combined with the New York Yankees’ win for these two teams to secure the American League Wild Card qualification and they will face each other this Tuesday at 8 p.m. Eastern time in the United States.

With Aaron Judge’s run-scoring run in the bottom of the ninth, the New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 1-0 and put their record at 92-70 to secure their place in the American League Wild Card game and for the fifth consecutive year Aaron Boone’s team will be in the postseason.

This pair of victories left a Toronto Blue Jays team, which although it did the same by defeating the Baltimore Orioles 12-4, was only good enough to finish with a 91-71 record, one game behind the Yankees and Red Sox who finished tied with 92 wins and 70 losses.

With these results, the Seattle Mariners were out of the playoff race after a successful season in which they beat all odds, and ended the campaign with a 7-3 loss to the Los Angeles Angels, finishing with 90 wins and 72 losses.

In the National League, the San Francisco Giants clinched the NL West Division pennant for the first time since the 2012 season by defeating the San Diego Padres 11-4, earning their 107th win of the season (first time in franchise history) and that forces the Dodgers to play for the wild card against the St. Louis Cardinals this Wednesday in the wild card game in Los Angeles at 8 p.m. ET.

Everything points to an exciting postseason where the winner of Cardinals and Dodgers will face the San Francisco Giants, and Atlanta Braves will face the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League, while in the American League, the winner of the Wild Card game between Red Sox and Yankees will face the Tampa Bay Rays, and completing the duels the Chicago White Sox will face the Houston Astros in the Major League Division Series.
