Garcia dissociates from Canelo and goes with Goossen

After a year of not working with trainer Eddy Reynoso, Ryan Garcia announced that he has left the Canelo Team and that his return to the ring, on November 9 in San Antonio against Emmanuel Tagoe, will be with trainer Joe Goossen in the corner.

Ryan Garcia had secured the services of experienced trainer Goossen. Ryan then shared a statement confirming the move and thanking Eddy for the work he did with him, guiding him for a little over three years to win the interim Lightweight championship endorsed by the World Boxing Council.

Ryan has not fought since January 2021, but it was announced that he will return to the ring next April against African Tagoe. In addition to Joe Goossen, Henry Garcia, his father, will continue to head his team. Ryan said he will also be working out of his own gym, Fierce King, also located in San Diego, home of Canelo Alvarez’s camp.

“I am excited to announce that I will be working with Hall of Fame trainer Joe Goossen in addition to my dad Henry Garcia,” read Ryan’s statement. “I thank Eddy for everything. He was in my corner since 2018 and I learned a lot from him, both in and out of the ring. On behalf of my team, I wish Eddy continued success in his impressive career,” he added.

Thus, Reynoso’s stable of fighters will be left with Canelo Alvarez at the helm, escorted by fighters like Oscar Valdez, Frank Sanchez, Andy Ruiz and Joselito Velazquez.
