Dodgers sweep the Cardinals

The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the St. Louis Cardinals in the wild card game by winning 3-1 with a home run in the ninth inning by Chris Taylor, thus sealing their ticket to the next round, where they will face the best team in the majors: San Francisco Giants.

In the last inning, Taylor broke the tie with a walk-off to keep Los Angeles in the possibility of repeating the championship they won a year ago.

Now, the Dodgers and Giants will have a fierce battle to prove who is the best and advance to the Championship Series. The Bay Area team won the regular season race against the Dodgers by winning the annual series 10-9 and beating the current Major League champions by one game, as the Giants had a 107-55 record and the Angels were 106-56.

The team led by Dave Roberts started the year with four consecutive wins, but since then the Giants, who won the NL West Division title, have been on their side, which gives them the advantage of starting the series at Oracle Park.

The Dodgers have been the dominant ninth in recent years in the National League as they have captured three of the last four Old Circuit pennants, but in those three trips to the World Series they have only been crowned once against the Tampa Bay Rays in 2020.

In turn, the Giants have better productivity in the Fall Classic, an instance they have not reached since 2014, but they have won the title in their last visits (2014, 2012, 2010) and to find their last defeat one must go back to 2002.

The Divisional Series between San Francisco and Los Angeles will begin next Friday, October 8 at Oracle Park and the first to win three out of five games against the winner between Milwaukee Brewers and Atlanta Braves will advance, all this in the National League.

In the American League, Tampa Bay will face the Boston Red Sox and the Houston Astros will do the same against the Chicago White Sox.
