Djokovic and another record Grand Slam record
When the record cabinet seemed to be almost complete, Novak Djokovic (3rd in the ATP ranking) once again set a milestone in the history of tennis by becoming the first tennis player to win 80 victories in each of the four Grand Slams.
After his victory in the first round of Wimbledon against South Korean Soonwoo Know (81st) by 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, the Serb achieved what nobody could so far. The closest to achieve this was Roger Federer, who although he has 105 victories in the English Major, 102 in the Australian Open and 89 in the US Open, the number he has in Roland Garros is 73 triumphs.
For his part, the Serb has already accumulated 85 in France, 82 in Australia, 81 in the United States and now 80 on London soil.
However, the record holder for the most wins in a single Grand Slam tournament is Spain’s Rafael Nadal, who so far has 112 victories at Roland Garros.
This record is impressive because it also includes women. There were many great women champions in history, but none completed this quartet of at least 80 victories in the four major tournaments.
In addition, and for the moment, this would be the last major tournament that the Serb could play in the season, since the rules established by the US Open do not allow unvaccinated players to participate in the event, something that would exempt him from participating.
