Colts activate Wentz from COVID-19 list

The Indianapolis Colts activated quarterback Carson Wentz from the reserve/COVID-19 list on Saturday, allowing him to start Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Wentz, who is unvaccinated, tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this week. However, the NFL and NFLPA adjusted their protocols this week to follow new CDC guidelines, authorizing players to return from the COVID-19 list after just five days if they are asymptomatic or demonstrate that their symptoms are diminishing.

The Colts needed to activate Wentz on Saturday so he could play on Sunday, when his five-day quarantine would expire, assuming he tested positive on Monday.

Wentz, in his first season with the Colts, who acquired him in an offseason trade with the Philadelphia Eagles, has thrown for 3,230 yards with 25 touchdowns and six interceptions in 2021.

The Colts also activated offensive tackle Braden Smith and corner T.J. Carrie from the COVID-19 list on Saturday.

The Colts (9-6) can clinch a playoff berth with a win over the Raiders.
