Clevinger agrees to White Sox deal
Clevinger, 31, had a 7-7 record with a 4.33 ERA last season pitching for the San Diego Padres. He also pitched 2⅔ innings in the playoffs, allowing seven clean runs, but was dealing with a knee problem toward the end of the season. He missed all of 2021 after Tommy John surgery.
The righty fits in the middle and back of the White Sox rotation, as veteran Johnny Cueto is unlikely to return to the team. The Sox already have right-handed starters Dylan Cease, Lance Lynn, Michael Kopech and Lucas Giolito.
Clevinger is a six-year veteran with a career mark of 51-30 and 3.39 ERA. His best seasons came between 2017 and 2019 with Cleveland Guardians, where he won 38 games in that span.
The deal is pending a physical. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
