Chiefs’ Mahomes is the Colossus of Week 16
Week 16 of the NFL regular season played most of its games on Saturday, which saw another great performance from the NFL’s Most Valuable Player candidate.
With only three games being played on Sunday, we decided to move up our Colossus of the Week and Patrick Mahomes took it upon himself to leave no room for controversy despite other outstanding performances around the league.
With the regular season fast approaching its end, great performances take on added value because they may represent the opportunity to carry their teams into the playoffs.
Patrick Mahomes, quarterback, Kansas City Chiefs
Mahomes checked a box on Saturday with his win over the Seahawks, whom he had not previously been able to beat in his career, so this win should have a special flavor.
With the win, the Chiefs remain in contention for the AFC’s No. 1 playoff seed with the Buffalo Bills, who are not slowing down and have the tiebreaker in their favor should both teams finish with the same record, so every great performance by Mahomes has significant value for Kansas City.
Mahomes led the Chiefs to two touchdowns and a series-ending field goal in the first half to take a 17-0 lead, with completions to Kadarius Toney and Jerick McKinnon. In the final quarter he capped a series that went 80 yards in three minutes with a 3-yard carry to make the score 24-3 with 4:42 to play, virtually sealing the victory.
