Chiefs-Eagles sets record
Super Bowl LVII hasn’t even started yet, but it has already set a new NFL record.
The Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles became the first teams since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger to reach the Super Bowl after having at least six players selected to the All-Pro team during the season.
Both teams had six selections to the All-Pro team each and in both cases saw four offensive players receive that honor.
For the Chiefs, quarterback Patrick Mahomes, tight end Travis Kelce, center Creed Humphrey, left guard Joe Thuney, defensive tackle Chris Jones and kicker Tommy Townsend were selected to the All-Pro team.
For the Eagles the players selected to the All-Pro team were quarterback Jalen Hurts, wide receiver A.J. Brown, center Jason Kelce, right tackle Lane Johnson, outside linebacker Haason Reddick and corner James Bradberry.
Kansas City and Philadelphia, who meet in an unprecedented Super Bowl, have played only nine games in their history, with the Chiefs slightly favoring them at 5-4 and riding a three-game winning streak.
The Chiefs, who will be playing in their third Super Bowl in the last four years, are seeking their third title in their history after winning the championship following the 1969 and 2019 seasons.
For the Eagles, it will be their fourth Super Bowl appearance and first since the 2017 season in which they were crowned NFL champions. Philadelphia also reached the Super Bowl in the 1980 (XV) and 2004 (XXXIX) seasons.
The Chiefs will play Super Bowl LVII in their white jersey and the Eagles will wear their usual green. Of the last 18 editions of the Super Bowl, 15 have been won by the team wearing white; however, Kansas City won its two previous titles wearing red and Philadelphia lifted its only Lombardi Trophy wearing green.
