Canó designated for assignment by Braves
The Atlanta Braves announced Monday the acquisition of Venezuelan infielder Ehire Adrianza in a trade with the Nationals that sent outfielder Trey Harris to Washington.
With that transaction, the Braves reported that they placed Dominican Robinson Canó on assignment.
This becomes the third time during 2022 where a team cuts ties with the 39-year-old.
Canó began the season with the New York Mets, who assumed the remaining $48 million remaining until 2023, then was signed by the San Diego Padres who placed him on assignment in June and on July 10 was acquired by the Braves.
With Atlanta, the player of 17 seasons in Major League Baseball saw action in 9 games where he batted .154, with only four hits in 26 at-bats with a double and no RBIs.
Last June Canó expressed that his main motivation was to return to the Major Leagues.
“I have no problem going back to the beginning, like I did when I was 20 years old and started my professional career, if that’s what it takes to get back to the Major Leagues,” the veteran said.
Adrianza will be in his second stint with the Braves, since last season he participated in 109 games in the utility role, which he is expected to do again in Atlanta.
The Guarenas native played in 31 games for the Nationals this season, hitting .179/.255/.202 with 7 RBI, two doubles and a steal in 94 plate appearances.
Ehire Adrianza will become a free agent at the end of the 2022 season.
Trey Harris was a couple of times among the top 30 prospects in the Braves organization and has not seen major league action at age 26.
