Canelo does not rule out trilogy Vs GGG

The excitement generated by the third fight between Tyson Fury (31-0-1, 22 KO’s) and Deontay Wilder (42-2-1, 41 KO’s) has reopened the topic of a trilogy between Mexico’s Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez (56-1-2, 38 KO’s) and Kazakhstan’s Gennadiy Golovkin (41-1-1, 36 KO’s).

“I’m ready for anything,” said Canelo in an exclusive interview with ESPN, leaving the door open to the possibility of making the fight that many boxing fans want.

Despite his willingness, the World Boxing Council (WBC), World Boxing Organization (WBO) and World Boxing Association (WBA) super middleweight champion made it clear that he is doing important things and wondered where Golovkin was.

“I’m set for everything, I’m set to make the best fights,” Canelo stressed. “You (journalists) hold on to that (the trilogy). I’m doing more important things than him, where is he, what has he done after he fought me? Nothing.”

The Kazakh fighter lost his unbeaten record in the second fight against the Mexican on September 15, 2018. After that split decision setback he has stepped into the ring three times and won the International Boxing Federation (IBF) middleweight title.

Meanwhile, Canelo has made six fights and captured titles at super middleweight and light heavyweight. He currently holds three world belts at 168 pounds, and will seek a fourth belt against American Caleb Plant (21-0-0, 12 KO’s) on November 6. If successful, he would become undisputed champion of the division.

“I’m doing other important things in my career. Beating champions, undefeated. But I’m ready,” said the Mexican.

About the Fury and Wilder fight, Canelo said it was a very exciting bout. “A very good fight. People love it when fighters knock each other down over and over again.

“(Wilder) got tired, he didn’t know how to take off punches on the ropes. (…) I think he lacked a lot of technique, a lot of condition. He didn’t want one punch anymore and that’s not how you win fights,” Canelo explained. “Fury is a great fighter (…), but in the end Wilder himself lost because he lacked a lot of condition.”
