Canelo and Plant agree on title fight

Alvarez will have his third fight of 2021 and fourth in less than 12 months, while Plant will have his second fight of the year.

Mexican Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez and American Caleb Plant reached an agreement to face each other on November 6 for all the Super Middleweight championships in a fight to be held in Las Vegas and on pay-per-view in the United States.

In spite of the obstacles that at some point had the fight dead and that forced to postpone it from September to November, finally the fight was signed and sealed for the titles held by Canelo, the World Boxing Association, the World Boxing Council and the World Boxing Organization, while Plant will put into play the International Boxing Federation.

Since the existence of these four bodies, there has not been a fighter at Super Middleweight who can bring them together, and that is precisely what Canelo and Plant will be pursuing.

Canelo will have his third bout of this 2021 and fourth in less than 12 months. Last December he defeated Callum Smith on points, winning the vacant World Boxing Council title and taking the World Boxing Association title from him. He returned in February to defeat Avni Yilidirm without major problems. In May, he won the World Boxing Organization championship by defeating Billy Joe Saunders.

Plant will have his second fight of the year after successfully defending the International Boxing Federation championship for the third time by defeating Caleb Truax. The 29-year-old American, two years younger than Canelo, Caleb, who is 21-0 with 12 knockouts, will not be the favorite to defeat Canelo, who is 56-1-2 with 38 knockouts.

A win will allow Canelo to make a solid contender for fighter of the year and his trainer, the renowned Eddy Reynoso, to remain the favorite in the race to be the best in the world and will surely be competing again in the category of manager of the year.
