Brian: If I win it will be like Messi winning the Cup.

The Argentine boxer compared the glory of winning the four Super Welterweight belts with the glory of the Albiceleste winning the World Championship.
Argentine Brian Castaño will have the opportunity to become, on July 17, the first Latin American-born fighter to win all four championships in the same division, and if he succeeds, the sporting glory will undoubtedly take him to the top, as if Lionel Messi and the rest of the Argentine national team lifted the World Cup.

Castaño, World Boxing Organization Super Welterweight champion, will face Jermell Charlo (34-1, 18 Ko’s), World Boxing Association, World Boxing Council and International Boxing Federation champion, in San Antonio, Texas.

“If I win, I think the excitement and glory would be the same as if Argentina comes out World Cup champion. Of course, soccer is different because you have 10 teammates. If Messi is in trouble, he can pass it to a teammate, while I have to manage alone inside the ring. Boxing is an individual challenge, and when I’m on the ropes I have to get out of trouble by myself,” said Castaño (17-0-1, 12 Ko’s).

With glory on his mind, being the first Latino with all four titles, plus The Ring belt, has the Argentine pride more than motivated. “This is my chance to make history representing my country and all of Latin America, that’s very strong. I want to make Latinos around the world proud. I feel immense pride and I am ready for the challenge,” he stressed.

In a virtual press conference, ‘Boxi’ accepted to respect his enemy’s punch, because Charlo has knocked down his opponents 13 times in his last 9 fights, but he assured that he also has the power to finish this by the fast track. “I’ve seen Charlo knock down opponents with one punch. I’m aware of that. However, I also possess a variety of punches in my arsenal superior to any opponent he’s faced before. If I have to be more aggressive and look for more power, I assure you that I am also capable of knocking him down,” he concluded.
