Andy Ruiz vs Luis Ortiz on Sept. 4

The expected return of former world heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz will not be on August 13 as planned, but on September 4 in Los Angeles against the experienced and dangerous Luis ‘King Kong’ Ortiz.

They confirmed that the fight will be on a Sunday, taking advantage of the fact that September 5th will be Labor Day in the United States. They also said that fighters such as Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz and perhaps three-time world champion Abner Mares could return to the ring.

The venue for the fight remains in Los Angeles, California, at the Crypto Arena, formerly known as the Staples Center.

Andy Ruiz was visiting Mexico City this weekend as a guest at the ‘Greatest Boxing Class’, in which thousands of people practiced boxing for 30 minutes to set a Guinness World Record. In addition to Ruiz, there were Oscar Valdez, ‘Terrible’ Morales, Miguel Berchelt and Jackie Nava, although the record was led by Ana Maria Torres, Mariana Juarez and Alan David Picasso.

Andy, 32, has a professional record of 34-2 with 22 knockouts, and made history in 2019 by becoming the first Mexican heavyweight world champion in boxing history after taking three fajines from the previously undefeated Anthony Joshua. King Kong’ Ortiz, 43 years old, comes from knocking out Charles Martin in a spectacular way on January 1st and criticized the Mexican fighter harshly when it seems that negotiations were taking another course; however, everything indicates that they will end up facing each other in the highest category of professional boxing.

After losing by unanimous decision to Joshua in a rematch, Ruiz defeated Chris Arreola by the same decision on May 1, 2021 at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.
