Alcantara on top of the pitching staff, but Urias on his heels

Dominican right-hander Sandy Alcantara remains number one, but Mexican left-hander Julio Urias is inching closer to the top of the Latin pitcher rankings.

The Dominican is going through his worst stretch of the season (13 RBI in 17.2 IL in his last three starts and 4.08 ERA in the past seven), but he remains at the top of the Latino pitchers and in the National League Cy Young race. Alcantara (12-7, 2.36) leads the NL in innings (190.2), complete games (4) and shutouts (1) and is second in effectiveness and quality starts (19) and sixth in strikeouts (170).

The Mexican pitcher is improving with each passing week of the season, which has allowed him to move into the lead in effectiveness, something that has never been achieved by a pitcher from his country. Urías (15-7, 2.29), is second in WHIP (0.97), third in wins and has 139 strikeouts and 34 walks in 145.2 innings. He has a 12-2 record and 1.96 ERA in his last 15 starts with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
