Red Sox Will Negotiate Extension With Brayan Bello

The Boston Red Sox appear to have found their first big pitching prospect since Clay Buchholz’s debut in 2007 in the form of Brayan Bello. The pitcher did not have the best of years in 2022, when he played for the first time in the Major Leagues, but after his rookie season, he seems to have put things in order and in fifteen outings he has a 3.14 ERA over 86 innings, with a WHIP of 1.198 and a FIP of 3.92, considerable improvements over his first season.

Now, seeing the great potential the player has and Boston’s need for more self-developed players, all signs point to the team intending to come to the negotiating table to reach an agreement that allows Nice to stay for a long time. According to The Athletic’s Jen McCaffrey, assistant general manager Chaim Bloom Eddie Romero indicated the team was open to negotiations.

“We see it on a case-by-case basis. There is no guide for it, but I think that Brayan (Bello) is a special case and we will make every effort to talk with him and his group. He’s basically done everything he needs to do and what you want from a young starting pitcher in this organization and he’s done it the right way. He’s a great teammate, he’s improved the quality of his stuff, he works pretty hard and he’s earned the respect of everyone here, so we want him to stay with us, obviously,” Romero noted to McCaffrey.

On his side, a few weeks ago, Bello expressed during an interview his desire to stay in Boston, but indicated that any negotiations must be done once the season is over.

“If (Red Sox) want to talk to my representatives, that’s something I don’t know, because I told them that any talk about an extension has to happen in the offseason, I don’t want to hear anything about it during the season, because I want to focus on finishing well. , so that good things happen to me”, indicated the Dominican pitcher to Rob Bradford of WEEI.

“I want to stay in the organization. This is the team that has given me the opportunity to be someone and I love being here,” added Bello.
