Dominicans in the All-Star Game

Eight Dominicans were selected among the alternates and pitchers for Seattle 2023.
After having no representation among the starters for the 2023 Major League Baseball All-Star Game, Dominicans will finally have eight players on the rosters for Seattle.

The National League roster will feature Juan Soto as the only position player and the pitching roster will feature San Francisco Giants pitcher Camilo Doval.

The American League will be loaded with more Quisqueyanos starting with Vladimir Guerrero Jr, who was among the finalists in the starting lineup for the July Classic.

Cleveland Rangers shortstop Jose Ramirez will be the other Dominican position player in the American League.

The largest quota of players from the Dominican Republic will be among the pitchers in the new circuit, led by starters Framber Valdez (Houston Astros), Luis Castillo (Seattle Mariners), Emmanuel Clase (Cleveland Rangers) and Félix Bautista (Baltimore Orioles).

The case of Castillo, known as ‘La Piedra’, stands out for being the only Seattle Mariners player selected for the All-Star Game to be held at the Mariners’ home on Tuesday, July 11.

With respect to the 2022 edition, the representation of the Dominican Republic is reduced to the thirteen players who were selected to integrate the rosters.

Some of the notable absences for the 2023 edition are Rafael Devers, Fernando Tatis Jr. and Wander Franco, among others.

For the first time since the 1996 season, there will be no Dominican position player as a starter in the MLB All-Star Game, which on that occasion was held at Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia, unless someone is chosen as a substitute due to injury or some other cause.

As for the other activities of the All-Star Game festivities, Julio Rodriguez and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will participate in the Home Run Derby to be held on Monday, July 10.
