Philadelphia lost the NFL, MLB and MLS titles.

The Kansas City Chiefs were proclaimed NFL champions by defeating the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35 in a thrilling Super Bowl LVII that was defined in the final seconds. With this result, the city of Philadelphia lost its third championship in four months.

Some of Philadelphia’s sports teams have experienced exciting moments in recent times by reaching the finals of major U.S. competitions. However, the inhabitants of the “City of Brotherly Love” have not been able to celebrate a single title.

In October 2022, the Phillies qualified for the MLB World Series for the first time in 13 years. The Philadelphia ninth beat the San Diego Padres in the National Conference to get into contention for the Commissioner’s Trophy.

Unfortunately for the people of Philadelphia, the Phillies were unable to win the World Series championship, falling in six games, 4-2, to the Houston Astros. The final game of the series was played on November 5.

On the same day that the Phillies lost in Major League Baseball, the Philadelphia Union lost the MLS final to LAFC, led by Mexican Carlos Vela.

In a thrilling match played at the Banc of California Stadium, Philadelphia came very close to winning the MLS championship. In the second overtime, Jake Elliot put the Union’s third goal on the scoreboard and it seemed to be the definitive one, however, in the last seconds of the match, former Real Madrid player Gareth Bale equalized the match. In the penalty shootout, Philadelphia missed their kicks and LAFC were crowned champions.

Last Sunday at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, Kansas City and Philadelphia played a great game in which the Eagles went into halftime with a 24-14 lead. However, Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs came from behind in the second half to beat the Eagles. In the final quarter, Kansas City scored 17 points and Mahomes and his teammates again lifted the Lombardi Trophy.

Thus, Philadelphia was present in the finals of some of the most important sports leagues in the United States, but its inhabitants will still have to wait to celebrate a championship.
