Pujols gana el “Regreso del Año” de la Liga Nacional

MLB has announced the winners of the “Comeback of the Year” award and Albert Pujols took the honors for the National League, capping off a historic season.

“The Machine” returned to the St. Louis Cardinals after ten seasons playing with the Los Angeles Angels and Los Angeles Dodgers. In what was his last year with the team, he had a spectacular second half that led him to reach 700 home runs, the fourth player in league history to do so. In addition, he moved into second place all-time in runs batted in.

Pujols closed his career with a productive campaign in which he hit for a .270 average, an OPS of .895, with 24 homers, 68 RBIs and a final trip to the postseason with the team that gave him the opportunity to become a Major League player, the Cardinals.

The question now is what will become of “The Machine’s” immediate future. In past interviews, he has said that he plans to take the contract he has with the Los Angeles Angels to work alongside them in the front office. Along with the 10-year, $240 million deal he signed in 2011, he agreed that once his playing career was over, he would have another 10 years (and $10 million) as part of the California team’s front office.

Pujols will be remembered not only for his performance on the field, but for the person he proved to be off the field. His charity work, his demeanor and the way he handled himself at all times will make Pujols a figure forever remembered in the city of St. Louis and in the Dominican Republic.
