Canelo vs Golovkin to be held at T-Mobile Arena

the highly anticipated third fight between Canelo Alvarez and Gennadiy Golovkin on September 17 will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

With two of the top four grossers in the history of the sport in Las Vegas, Canelo and GGG will return to the property in mid-2022. In 2017, their first duel, they generated $27.05 million to rank as the third best box office. In 2018, the rematch, they reached 24.47 million dollars to reach the fourth position.

Ahead of the marks set by Canelo and Golovkin are only two Floyd Mayweather fights that generated $72.19 million and $55.41 million, none other than against Manny Pacquiao at the MGM Grand Garden Arena and Conor McGregor at the T-Mobile Arena, respectively.

Although Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas and AT&T Stadium in Arlington were set as possibilities, both are already occupied for various events, and the reality is that the fans at the T-Mobile have always lived up to expectations, even last May when Canelo Alvarez lost with some surprise on points to Dmitry Bivol.

Opened by The Killers in 2016, T-Mobile Arena first hosted a boxing event that same year and it was with Canelo Alvarez on the scene facing Britain’s Amir Khan. After that, the Mexican star fought five more times in this venue with a total balance of four wins, one draw and one loss.

The third fight between Canelo and Golovkin comes four years after their second duel. There were a total of 24 electrifying episodes that gave a lot to talk about and were also friendly in the eyes of the public, both in and out of the arena.

For this third fight, which will be promoted by Matchroom Boxing, Canelo will be 32 years old and will be 57-2-2 with 39 knockouts, while Golovkin will be 40 years old and will have a record of 42-1-1 and 37 knockouts. Since that second bout, GGG had only four fights and won all of them, three of them by knockout, while Canelo fought eight times with only one loss along the way.
