Chances for Canelo Vs Plant are reborn

A few days ago the possibility of seeing a unification fight at 168 pounds was buried, and now it appears that a glimmer of hope has been lit at the end of the tunnel. With Dmitry Bivol also in the mix, sources have told ESPN KNOCKOUT El Show that Canelo Alvarez’s team is reportedly back at the table for a fight against Caleb Plant, though not necessarily by September 18.

With just over 40 days to go, there was still a possibility that Canelo would face Bivol, an undefeated World Boxing Association semi-completeweight champion with whom he could very well make a middleweight between Canelo’s 168 and Bivol’s 175 for most of his career at that weight, but Eddie Hearn told ESPN that it would no longer be for that date. Dmitry isn’t the only one on the table, but it’s the most eye-catching if Plant doesn’t happen.

However, sources revealed that there is a new attempt to make that fight between Canelo and Plant for the World Boxing Association, World Boxing Council, International Boxing Federation and World Boxing Organization championships despite the collapse a few days ago. The talk is not now about making it on September 18, and not because the fighters don’t want to, but because of a promotional issue.

The advances achieved in the first negotiation were remarkable, such as the guaranteed purse for each fighter, except for the final details that brought everything down. With this background on the table, they did not start from scratch and already knew the corrections to be made, although there is no guarantee of success.

There is talk of October or November as possible fight months, although in October there is supposed to be a pay-per-view in which Fox Sports is involved in partnership with ESPN and which has Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder as protagonists for the World Boxing Council Heavyweight championship.

Both Caleb Plant and Dmitry Bivol are Class A opponents for Canelo, who is considered by many to be the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. The Mexican’s drawing power goes beyond Cinco de Mayo weekend and Mexican Independence weekend, although there is still a high interest in seeing him on September 18 in Las Vegas.

In the coming days, information is expected on the status of Canelo and his team, who if he wins a fight against Plant or Bivol would be confirmed as the leading candidate for fighter of the year, Eddy Reynoso for trainer of the year and could also make it as manager of the year. Against Bivol he could also consolidate that competition.

If September 18 is no longer a constraint, no doubt Canelo and Reynoso will have a much better margin to work with Premier Boxing Champions, and aware that Matchroom will be there to give them a hand if needed.
