Negotiations to see Canelo Vs Plant

Canelo’s team and Plant’s team are analyzing the options to return to the ring, with no certainty of negotiating again between them.
The last attempts to agree on a fight for the four super middleweight titles between Mexican Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and American Caleb Plant were unsuccessful.

In fact, both ‘Canelo’s’ and Caleb’s teams are already analyzing the best options to return to the ring without the certainty that a victorious march will allow them to sit at the table to negotiate again.

Everything was ready, but minor details ended up being major and this ended the dream of many to see a single champion with the titles of the World Boxing Association, the World Boxing Council, the International Boxing Federation and the World Boxing Organization.

The fight was to be in Las Vegas on September 18. ‘Canelo’ was to receive the second largest guarantee for a fight with over $41 million on the table (the first is Floyd Mayweather with $100 million) and Caleb was to add for the first time in his career over $10 million. The fight was going to be on U.S. soil on pay-per-view.

What lies ahead either way may turn out to be positive for both, although there will not be that historic issue at the undisputed championship table.

Alvarez, considered the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, could face Dmitry Bivol, a semi-complete weight champion who has said he is willing to move down to super middleweight, the weight at which ‘Canelo’ has fought his last three fights. Nothing is set in stone, but promoter Eddie Hearn, with whom Canelo has made those three fights, has already put it on the table.

Bivol is currently considered one of the two best semi-complete fighters in the world, along with Artur Beterbiev. We will have to see if they come to an agreement. There was also talk of Beterbiev, but it seems less likely. British super middleweight John Ryder has also always been on the lookout for any call.

On the other hand, Plant could open the door to a showdown against fellow countryman Jermall Charlo, a middleweight champion who has been flirting with the possibility of moving up to 168 pounds. David Benavidez has also been in the air for Caleb, but the reality is that he closed the door on Plant in the face of the Canelo possibility, which has now faded.

The fight was all but settled; however, a last-ditch effort was made on Thursday that proved unsuccessful to see Canelo and Plant in the same ring on September 18 in Las Vegas.
