Brian doesn’t see Charlo wanting to fight again.

The Argentine boxer drew against American Jermell Charlo in a thrilling bout for the Super Welterweight belts.

With a bittersweet feeling after a memorable battle that ended in a draw, the Argentine Brian ‘Boxi’ Castaño confirmed his intention of a new duel with the American Jermell Charlo for all the Super Welterweight crowns, but did not see him so eager to get in the ring with him soon.

Castaño and Charlo starred in a great fight that had the crowd on the edge of their seats and at the end of the 12 rounds, one judge saw Brian winning by 115-113, another judge inexplicably gave the winner at 117-111 to Charlo, and yet another 114-114 that ended up being the draw. Brian felt that at least by a couple of points he deserved the win.

“The truth that it was a fight for me personally, for history, I think it was a tough fight, but I felt like a winner, fights are fights and he had everything in his favor, the venue, the people, the judges, but we have to keep working and with new goals,” said ‘Boxi’ in a chat with ESPN KNOCKOUT from his hotel on Texan soil.

“We have to improve some defensive things when it comes to attacking so I don’t eat those counter shots that I ate and even more against a born counterpuncher like Charlo. We are leaving with a bitter taste because beyond the draw, with a taste of victory, but I’m like it slipped out of my hands for a little bit, I think it was my chance, I won it by two puntitos, but these are the things that happen”, added the World Boxing Organization Super Welterweight champion.

Brian recognized Charlo’s punch, which had him in bad shape on more than one occasion during the fight, but it was the risk he had to take because he bet on the quality of his punches more than the quantity. “I think he underestimated a little bit my boxing, my size, he was confident because I am small, short in reach, but I showed him that I am not only fast and I throw punches, but when I assert myself I can hurt, it was a great fight and we showed where we stand today,” he said.

Finally, he will see what’s next and did not rule out returning for the last two months of this 2021, either against Jermell or another opponent. “I don’t see him much desire to do a rematch, I think he wants to aim elsewhere, I want to unify, when they told him about the rematch and he kind of changed the question, he said something else, like that I realized that for now he doesn’t want it, like he wants to rest or look for another fight apart. I think he will wait a little while, make another fight and then fight me, but let’s wait, for me, my next fight is the rematch, that’s what I want, I worked so long for something and I’m in it, “said Castaño.
